Maria is her art, Maria’s art is her, the two are absolutely inseparable. Her art is a tribute to her person and she herself is an embodiment of creativity.
The magic of Maria’s work is derived from her passion for folklore and storytelling. Her paintings and poetry intermingle to play on the senses and enchant us all. In her work, we escape. She is a generous, soulful artist who communicates passion, emotion and ideals. Her art, her life, her passion and enthusiasm brighten our world.

‘Time-Lapse’ Solo Exhibition
Ranelagh Arts Centre, Dublin 6

Fri 9th August - Sat 31st August 2024

"It is said that if your name is held in the hearts of others, you will never truly die," and this is the premise of my Time-lapse exhibition.

Thank you so much to everyone that came out to the opening of my solo exhibition 'Time-lapse' in Ranelagh Arts last night. We had a wonderful turnout.

I want to express my gratitude to Ranelagh Arts and their committee for the opportunity to exhibit in this lovely, intimate gallery.

I'm pleased to say that my work feels perfectly at home here, thanks to the curatorial skills of Dino Notaro.

Working with Dino has been a joy. His passion and enthusiasm for art are infectious. His keen eye for detail and high level of professionalism ensured that everything ran smoothly from the very early stages of organising to the final hanging of the work. Heartfelt thanks, Dino.

I also want to acknowledge Dino's trusty helper, Jonathan Doonan. Thank you for all your support  and time, preparing the space and setting up. It was really appreciated.

This is my 28th solo exhibition, but 'Time-lapse' is especially dear to me because it was inspired by my personal experience of helping care for my Mum, Maisie, who had Alzheimer’s.

‘Time-Lapse’ Solo Exhibition at Cnoc Bui Arts Centre, Union Hall, West Cork

31st May - 16th June 2024

What a pleasure and honour exhibiting in Cnoc Bui Arts Centre in Union Hall, West Cork. The experience is one I will always cherish.

My heartfelt thanks to the Union Hall community for their wonderful support and to the committee members and volunteers who dedicated their time to invigilate the exhibition each day. Special mentions to Sally, Sinéad, Heather, and Deirdre, among all the others. Your help and assistance was truly appreciated.

Thank you, to two very special artists, Ian Humphreys and Coilin Murray, for their generous hospitality in welcoming me into their tribe and into their homes. We shall definitely keep in touch.

Finally, a very special thank you to Paul and Aileen. From our initial introduction many months ago to the entire run of the show, your exceptional care and support have been invaluable. I wish you years of continued success as this project evolves and grows.

Paul and Aileen, your passion, your kindness and enthusiasm is contagious. Your beautiful energy permeates throughout everything you do at Cnoc Bui and I am grateful to have shared a small part of it with you.

Until next time... 🤗

February 2024

S.O.S Save our Signal was an exhibition of 15x15cm art works donated by artists from across Ireland and around the world.

Each piece was sold at €50, the buyer did not know who created the work until they had bought it.

Each piece was bought out of love for the work and love for Signal.

The paintings went on sale in the physical gallery, yesterday 14th February.  After Sunday they will continue to be sold on Signal Art Centres website www.signalartscentre.ie

Signal Arts Centre has made a significant impact in Bray, Co. Wicklow, not only in the arts and educational fields but also as an addition to the town’s basic tourism infrastructure. Signal first opened to the public in 1990 and since that time has embedded itself firmly into the cultural and social fabric of the community. The centre has provided an irreplaceable resource for artists and the general public alike and continues to upgrade and develop its arts programme each year.

We wish them continued success with their fundraising.

St. Brigid’s Exhibition Touring China
January 2024

In association with the Department of Foreign Affairs, Hamilton Gallery, Sligo began a series of invited artists exhibitions in 2019, themed on the creative work and lives of inspirational Irish women.

Most recently, for "Go Lá Fheile Bride' / St Brigid’s Days Exhibition, they  commissioned a new poem from one of Ireland’s foremost poets, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin.

Eiléan’s poem, 'St Brigid’s Well', became the thematic inspiration for new paintings by 96 Irish women artists and I am happy to be among them.

My painting, 'They Rise', was created in response to this beautiful, evocative poem and has traveled all the way to Beijing where it Opens for Lá Fhélie Bride, St. Brigid's Day, February 1st and again for International Women’s Day on March 8th, 2024.

Thank you, once again to Ailbhe,  Martina and all the staff Hamilton Gallery for their continued hard work in making these ambitious exhibitions happen.

Noonan-McDermott’s paintings are created over long periods. The accumulation of tiny flecks of different colours are like sedimentary rocks, counterpointed by smooth areas of paint, which look as though they have been polished. A sense of the strangeness in the everyday runs through all the paintings... There is a friction between what can be remembered topographically and emotionally.
